This photo I took at the lake called Espejo de los lirios located in Cuautitlan Izcalli, Estado de Mexico. This lake is not far from home and I visit it as often as I can. Sometimes every day during holidays because photography is my hobby as I am a teacher. I am so fascinated by the herons. At the lake during different seasons there are 7 different species of herons. The great heron is present during all the year. They are my favorite birds because they seem to me just elegant ones. In order to take a nice photo I spend hours and hours at the lake in the heat of the mexican sun. This lake is visited by many people early in the morning doing sport like running around the lake etc. That's when it becomes almost impossible to take a good shot of birds. When I am alone at the lake (by the way always dangerous because I have to be aware for the assaults and thiefs) I have a special contact with herons. Moving slow towards them, just to be as close as I can touch them if I would like to do so. They need confidence and after so many years visiting the lake I know all about them. I know when they are going to fly, fishing, strategies and so on. There is always something to learn from birds. Just love their freedom and elegance.Time
This photo was taken during midday as I try to remember. Herons fish from 11:00 o'clock till 3 o''clock more or less. Well these are the best hours watching them fishing, at least at the lake here in Mexico.Lighting

Nikon D80, now I got a better Nikon D7100. Lens 18-135 mm. It is not possible to stand still for a long time in the same place because of the assaults and thiefs at the lake. (Over one year two people killed for robbery at the lake, I also got once a pistol on me by a guy)Inspiration
