Location
I took this photo at a little bay called Petrel Cove in South Australia. It's surrounded by cliffs and can get some rough seas.Time
This was taken as one of the last shots of the day for me. We were just about to wrap up and go home after a full day of driving and shooting. The Sun in the evening below the hills gave me just enough light to use a fairly long exposure.Lighting
It was dusk with only false light left. This allowed me to use long exposure to get that mist feel to the water and the soft shadows.Equipment
I took this with a Nikon d3300 with the kit 18-55mm lens. I had it on a cheap generic tripod so I'm very happy with the results. It shows you don't need the best equipment, although i wouldn't mind having it.Inspiration
Living in Australia I think it's hard to not find inspiration. We have such diverse and beautiful land, flora and fauna. The texture of the rocks caught my eye with this particular shot.Editing
I did, not a lot though. I mostly raised the contrast a little and adjusted the colour temperature to make it look as close to what my eye saw that day as possible. I do however dim a bright yellow piece of seaweed because it was too distracting. In my camera bag
Normally I have a backpack with my Nikon d3300 with 3 lenses, 18-55mm, 55-200mm and 70-300mm, all Nikkor. Along with that I have my tripod, a speedlight, cleaning equipment, spare batteries and various accessories.Feedback
My advice is focus on composition. The basic rules really do come into it. Use long exposure so late in the evening or early morning. Get out there and explore.
