Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on Bournemouth beach I believe, it's quite a while ago and I was only just getting into photography. I was still using my phone camera at this point and was feeling brave as I had a waterproof phone. It took quite a lot of attempts and last minute jumping out of the way to avoid getting soaked.

Time

I went with my best friend to the beach around mid-morning and around midday, it started to breeze up quite a bit so I started taking pictures. We used to go to the beach quite a lot before I had kids, but then we stopped for some reason, I think I took this around June/July 2016

Lighting

I haven't done anything about lighting to be honest, it was cloudy and moody, perfect weather for wave photos

Equipment

I used nothing but my Sony Z1 compact smart phone camera.

Inspiration

I just really love the ocean and how the waves move and crash, so when the wind picked up and the waves started crashing I though it would be the prime opportunity to get some really cool pictures, and I'm so glad I did, I still don't know how I stayed dry though.

Editing

This was one of the first pictures I did any post- processing with, mostly I just played with the colour saturation, temperature and contrast in a free phone app I found

In my camera bag

Nowadays I just carry my Nikon d3500 and kit lens. I haven't found a need for much else as I find the kit lens is really versatile.

Feedback

I must have taken about 200 pictures with different settings to get this picture. With close-up waves, I'd say make sure you don't mind your equipment getting splashed, or yourself for that matter, and make sure the weather conditions are right. You can't get this kind of picture with a gentle breeze
