Location
The Crumlin Glen in Co Antrim, Northern Ireland has a wonderful and little known waterfall, visited by local photographers and dog walkers (or if your like me, both)Time
I took it about 10:30 in the morning and as the light was a bit harsh, I converted to to Monochrome later at homeLighting
The sun had just started to crest the waterfall so I had to work quite quickly before it became a problemEquipment
I always carry a tripod and had an nd 10 filter on my lensInspiration
it's a favourite spot as it is within walking distance but I know the position of the rocks so well I had gone there with the idea of the foreground swirl in the rock but the water had to be at the right level for this to happenEditing
I converted to mono in light room and boosted the contrast with some sharpeningIn my camera bag
I always carry nd and cpl filters and a bean bag for those close to the ground shotsFeedback
know your subject as well as you can and what times of the day the lighting is suitable for what you want, I usually have an image in my head but be prepared to be versatile and have plenty of time if you can, I like to walk around the subject as much as possible and stand or crouch at different levels to get a different perspective
