Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Gettysburg and thought it would look cool to edit some photos to look like they are from the Civil War era.

Time

Late Morning

Lighting

It was a very hot, sunny day and I got this effect purely through editing

Equipment

Canon SX40

Inspiration

I loved the way all the fences at Gettysburg looked and that they still have the look of what a farm fence would have looked like in the 1860's

Editing

I use CameraBag for photo editing and just played with different levels primarily making it darker and adding some grain and sepia tones until I thought it had a cool civil war type look to it.

In my camera bag

I am just starting out with being interested in photography so I have a very basic Canon SX40 which I use primarily in auto, I am starting to learn different functions. I just purchased some filters (UV, CPL, ND) as well as a new shoulder strap. I always carry multiple memory cards as well as microfiber cleaning cloths.

Feedback

I was overwhelmed at the amount of stuff to shoot at Gettysburg...barns, fences, canons, graves, monuments. I like taking things from different angles, I laid on the ground to take this photo. Once I got home and started looking at my photos I edited one to make it look old and then thought it would be fun to edit all of them that they looked like they were civil war era.
