Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (South Africa and Botswana), near Nossob camp. I was ecstatic when we came across the pride of lions - mostly females and cubs.

Time

It was morning - not ideal light conditions and difficult to balance the camera and lens on the open window of our vehicle - but wonderful to capture the interaction between the females and cubs.

Lighting

If you are sitting in a vehicle photographing game, you often have to take what you get, as you can't change the lighting or your view point.

Equipment

This image wad taken with a Canon 450D with a 150.0 - 500.0 mm, Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3, using a beanbag for stability. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

The Kgalagadi is an inspiration! Africa at its best.

Editing

No. The photo was taken in JPEG, and only required some cropping.

In my camera bag

I have my Canon 450D, 70D, various lenses, tripod and beanbag.

Feedback

The Kgalagadi requires patience and time. Lots of sand, heat and little shade - but amazing treasures if one is lucky enough to spot them while driving around.
