Location
This photo was taken in a field just outside of Ballina in Co Mayo in Ireland in summer.Time
It was sunset. About 9.45/10pm. Late summer sunsets in IrelandLighting
The natural light was perfect. It was bright enough to not require a flash yet just dark enough to create the effect of Day changing to night. The sunbeams were still so strong they created the perfect silhouette of the tree but also gave me more natural light to work with.Equipment
Hand held Nikon Coolpix L110 with attached lens. Has an excellent low light / sunset setting. I've had great success with it. Nothing more.Inspiration
The perfect sync of the tree against the backdrop of a magnificent sunset. The vibrant colors and vastness of the sky. And the loneliness of the tree against it.Editing
It didn't need anything else added to it. I warmed up the tones ever so slightly and cropped a little but nothing more.In my camera bag
My small Nikon Coolpix L110 Tiny pocket canon powershot camera. My main camera is my Canon Digital rebel T2i with a 70-300 tamron lens. Also Rain cover. Wideangel lens and a lens extender. Sometimes a tripod. Charged batteries.Feedback
Go out just before the sun goes down because when it does it disappears fast. Search more remote areas during daylight hours. Look for space, objects that would make a nice image, wide open backdrops and know the areas the sun sets. Check sun set times daily and plan your trip. Watch the weather too. Pick your spot in advance and set up, check your composition, light etc and wait. Patience is necessary. Once the sun starts to set start shooting. I used the standard low light setting. I had to stoop low to the ground and angle the camera up slightly to capture the entire tree and backdrop. Worked out perfectly. Always have a Back up battery
