This photo was taken on the Louisville side of the the Ohio River. It was an eerie foggy morning on my way to work (at least the one i get paid for). I live in Indiana and work in Louisville, KY. I have to cross the bridge everyday and there is always great opportunities for some neat pictures.Time
This shot was taken about 6 am. When I walk outside that morning it was quite foggy. I went a little different way to work that day with the idea that i would have to stop and take some pictures. I was going to stop on the Indiana side and shoot the Louisville skyline but missed my exit due to the fog......."Happy little mistake" quoting Bob Ross.Lighting
A person couldn't buy a better morning for photography as far a the lighting was concerned. I wished I had a tripod with me but nonetheless, I did not. I shot this off hand, move the ISO up to 320 with the shutter at 1/125. I very seldom shoot at a lesser speed if I'm holding the camera. The streetlights gave a nice glow in the fog. I thought the picture would be neat on canvas with the LEDs in mounted in the back physically lighting the street lamps.Equipment
I shot this with with a Nikon D7200 and a Tamron 16/300 3.5-6.3.Inspiration
The Louisville riverfront is a mecca of opportunity for any level of photographer. I love going down there anytime of day or night. There is always lots to see and lots to shoot. I have quite a few pictures of the Bell of Louisville but the fog sets this one off. Always nice to get a chance to shoot something that not everyone gets to see, and this morning truly spelled that out.Editing
I used Adobe Lightroom some cropping and sharpening, lowered the highlights so the streetlamps weren't blown out. I did some simple cleaning and upped the dehaze just a tad to enhance the mystery of the fog.In my camera bag
The go bag is always the Nikon D7200 (until recently when a popup storm crashed it). I usually have a variable zoom. I'm shooting the Tamron 16-300 now, but always have the Nikkor 50 prime 1.8 with me too. I generally have 2 flashes and at least one tripod in the car just incase. My newest addition to my camera equipment is a plastic bag......Sad Face.Feedback
I have been ask this questions quite a bit. The most important advice I can give is to have your camera with you. So many people have left quality behind for convenience. "I have my phone, and it takes really good pictures." Don't get me wrong, I have used my phone (Samsung S7 Edge,12 MP, f/1.7, 26mm) in a pinch in many occasions but I almost always have a "good" camera with me too. I also search for pictures, make a true effort to go out with the idea that I'm a "photographer". Somethings just happen and you may happen to have a camera. Other things are always there and it just needs your eye and creativity to expose them. "Life in motion, stopped digitally forever" ~Lee M Shockney-LMShockney Photography
