Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while hiking in North Italy. Near a little village called Calea in the foothills of the alps, I walked for three hours through steep forests. I saw nobody, I heard nothing and then suddenly this beautiful house.

Time

I have no idea. I imagine it was some time in the afternoon. I remember it being hot. Also it was hot, I don't like waking up when it's hot. And of course you can see the image so I guess the sun was floating about somewhere.

Lighting

No. The sun was there. I don't use any extra lighting. Or any other equipment for that matter. Just a camera. If I can't take a photo with just a camera then I don't think the photo needs to be taken.

Equipment

I used a camera. A finepix s6800. The only digital camera I've ever owned.

Inspiration

The picture in and of itself. I think photography is simple at it's roots - if it makes a good picture, take the photo. If not don't.

Editing

Never. I have only moved in to the realm of digital photography this year. I feel uncomfortable with using any kind of post processing. The beauty of the original moment is tainted. It becomes tainted. Photography is about capturing the moment as it was not trying to paint the world prettier than it is.

In my camera bag

I don't have a bag. I have a camera and maybe some spare batteries rattling around in my pocket.

Feedback

I should think this straight forward - take photos. Take lots of photos, all the time. Don't delete anything, don't wait for the perfect lighting. Just take the photo. In a batch of 100 you might have one true gem. A splendour plucked from racing time, to hold fast to, to welcome others in to your life. And for the love of god, stop posing for pictures.
