Behind The Lens

Location

I take this photo in the city of Porto Alegre, Brasil, in the neighnorhood Morro Santa Tereza. I was on the street covering the Christ's Passion procession, which takes place every year at Easter, and saw this lady propped up in the window watching the march, used the maximum zoom that my 18-55mm lens offers and pointed the camera. When she saw me, she covered her face with shame. I believe that if she had not overgrown his face, the picture would not come out so spontaneous and original.

Time

This picture was taken at 6 pm on a rainy cloudy day. As we were in the summer, the sun sets at approximately 8 pm, so there was the soft sunlight to illuminate the scene.

Lighting

I like this soft light of a cloudy day. It gives a candid feeling to photography.

Equipment

A nikon D3200 with a 18-55mm lens.

Inspiration

I love street photography and photographing people in spontaneous and natural moments. That's what I hunt when I go out to the street with my camera.

Editing

I like the well contrasted edition. In this photo I basically quite soaked blue and green and darkened the dark tones and brightened the light to give the desired contrast. And i added sticker to enhance the character in the middle of the image

In my camera bag

I work with a very humble equipment. I only have a semi-professional camera with the kit lens.

Feedback

Study, practice and seek references in the work of other artists. See photos of Elliott Erwitt, Josef Koudelka and Vivian Maier. Remember that whoever makes the photo is the photographer, not the camera. The equipment is just a tool in your hands. So no matter if you have a professional camera or a compact simple, the decisive factor for the quality of your photos will be your look.
