Behind The Lens

Location

The Trans Agulhas Challenge is an annual race around the southern tip of South Africa and this 5 day race is estimated to be "The world's toughest inflatable boat challenge". The race takes place over 5 days and includes wave races at the stopovers. This photo was taken a Stilbaai, a small coastal village on the South African coast.

Time

The photo was taken around the middle of the day and by that time the South Easterly wind has come up and is quite strong

Lighting

The race took place in the middle of the day so lightning was at it's worse with harsh shadows and glare from the waves and sand

Equipment

Camera: Canon EOS 7D Mark II Lens: Canon 100-400mm MKII Aperture: 56/10 ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/2000 Focal Length: 400/1

Inspiration

I love the sea and action and of course photography. So who could resist?

Editing

I use Lightroom and normally decrease my exposure as I overexpose when taking photos. I boost the contrast slightly and adjust highlights and shadows if required.

In my camera bag

I have a wide angle and a nifty fifty in my bag but I estimate that more than 80% of my photos are taken with my 100-400mm lens and when required I attach a 1.4X converter.

Feedback

Push the shutter speed as high as possible and follow a boat for that moment when something happens.
