I actually was able to capture this photo in the tiny living room of my apartment. I wanted to try working with the limited space that I had.Time
This photograph was taken some time in the afternoon. I remember because I had just returned home from taking my wife to work. It wasn't the greatest day out so I decided to have some fun and get a few shots of my dog Roxy.Lighting
I just purchased a couple of Neewer speedlites and really wanted to test them out. I only used one for this particular shot as well as an umbrella attachement. The speedlite was at a 45 degree angle to my dog as well as overhead.Equipment
I used my trusty, old Canon T3i, Canon 50mm lens, Neewer speedlite, umbrella, and the backdrop was black presentation board.Inspiration
I guess what inspired me other than to have fun was to challenge myself a bit. I wanted to see if I could get a decent shot of my dog. She's quite the character and is so elusive to the camera. It's like she always knows when we want to take a picture of her. But I finally managed to get her to sit still and was able to get a few shots that we can enjoy.Editing
There was minimal post processing done. The most I did was really messing around with the curves to boost contrast and adding a very slight coolness to the shadows. In my camera bag
First off I have my Canon T3i. It's the only camera I have at the moment so it is always around. I always like to keep my kit lens, 50mm prime, and my 75-200 lens. Never know what kind of shooting could go on so I like to have options. Every once in a while I will have my speedlites on hand as well, but I tend to bring those around only when the shoot calls for them.Feedback
Photographing pets can be difficult but very fun. For the most part just try to capture them being themselves. But if your going for a more studio approach definitely have their toys on hand and think of poses they can do that won't be difficult for them. Be patient, but most importantly have fun with it!
