Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the Bradgate Park, located in the picturesque village of Burton on the Water in the UK. It is famous for its honey coloured stone architecture and idyllic village scenes.Regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in England. There is plenty to see and do with a wealth of attractions and shops, restaurants and tea rooms, or simply for you to enjoy some tranquil time by the River Windrush with its beautiful bridges throughout. The Birdland Park & Gardens is home to many birds including Hornbills, Cranes, Penguins, Ostrich, Parrots, Pelican, Storks and of course Owls.

Time

It's worth allowing yourself plenty time to wander around the park so we got there early.

Lighting

I love the golden morning light, after all the early bird get the worm, or mouse.

Equipment

This was taken with a Pentax KS-2 hand held using a Sigma 70-300mm Tele lens.

Inspiration

I have always been seduced by the eyes of birds of prey, they have a depth and clarity to them, I think this photo capture the essence of the alertness and killer instinct innate in these birds.

Editing

This was shot in RAW, with minimal processing, some clarity and sharpening was all that was needed in lightroom.

In my camera bag

When I am out and about, I normally have my Pentax KS-2 DSLR with me. A great camera for the price, super image quality from RAW images, weather sealed body, pentaprism and super clear viewfinder. The other thing I like about the pentax is it's 1/6000th sec shutter speed, allows me to shoot wide open in strong light. My Vanguard Alta Pro tripod, Sigma 610 flash. Lenses are my Sigma 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 Tele, Sigma 17-50mm f2.8, 50mm Pentax f/1.8 prime and a spare battery.

Feedback

I have found that mostly, photos are about putting yourself out in the world and having patience to sit and wait, take time to get the right shot not just any shot. Having said that, sometime it's the snapshot photo that can wow!
