Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on I-25 between Saguache and Buena Vista Colorado.

Time

The photo was taken in mid day with harsh light however I was able to use lightroom to create a dramatic effect.

Lighting

The photo was shot during the harsh light of mid afternoon. In order to create the dramatic lighting effect I used Lightroom and applied a series of gradient filters and brushes to create a whole new mood.

Equipment

I shot this with a Canon 70d and canon 18-35mm lens

Inspiration

Pulling over to take a quick stretch break, I noticed no one was on the open road and saw it as a perfect opportunity to capture this shot. The worn out road made me wonder how many people have passed through on this same adventure. The surrounding land was flat and desolate but the towering mountains that lay ahead created a sense of adventure.

Editing

Yes, I used Adobe Lightroom and applied a series of Gradient filters, Brushes and Temp effects to create a tunnel vision type effect that brings the viewrs eyes directly into the mountains ahead

In my camera bag

At the time I carried a canon 70d and only a kit lens of 18-35. I have sense been lucky enough to upgrade to a Canon 70-200mm and Tokina 17-30mm however I still use the same 70d camera body. I also carry lots of extra batteries additional memory cards, a rode pro microphone, cleaning brushes, Yongnuo Speedlite, and a Neewer Led video Light.

Feedback

My best advice is for anyone trying to capture something similar is to not underestimate the power of Lightroom or Photoshop, and don't worry if you have the most basic equipment you can still create a work of art with even the most simple of cameras.
