Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my own back yard. I used a wooded area to contrast the light colors used in the props and attire of this sweet little lady.

Time

This was taken around 4 o'clock in the evening. We were in a rush to get things finished that day due to the chance of a rain showers. Luckily for us the rain held off and we still accomplished a bright airy photo before the clouds moved in.

Lighting

I wanted to accomplish a light dreamy look with this photo. I overexposed slightly and positioned the little angel where the sunlight peaking through the trees would provide highlights.

Equipment

This was a simple shot! The only tool used was my camera. I positioned myself on the ground and used my elbows to steady the camera.

Inspiration

This child had a vibrant personality and was used to more rigid photography routine. She competes in pagents religiously so I chose a set that would show off her soft features with relaxed posing.

Editing

Post processing for this image was simple. The look was accomplished by adding a simple haze on Adobe Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I carry multiple lenses in my bag because you never know what sort of unforseen situations will arise while shooting and a variety lenses will save the day! I also carry cleaning supplies and several extra batteries and memory cards....you know....just in case. Oh, and don't forget your trusty light meter...all simple tools and all utterly important.

Feedback

When trying to create a light dreamy look like the one in this particular photograph I would advise you to be sure a capture several shots at different exposure ranges to ensure you don't overexpose your image TOO much.
