I took this photo in False Bay, across the waters from Table Mountain in South Africa.Time
It was after a long day of work, and I decided to go down to the waters and join a friend of mine. I bought the drink and walked out onto the deck of our local pub. This was the view that greeted me and I just had to capture it.Lighting
The only issue I had was balancing high and low light. Since I did not have a tripod or proper camera There was no opportunity for HDR images or anything like that. I had to shoot off hand with a high ISO and hoped I could get rid of the noise later on. Turned out pretty alright in my opinion.Equipment
I didn't have any proper equipment with me, so I had to take the photo with my phone. Samsung S4.Inspiration
The scene was the inspiration. i had not planned to take any photos that day, but this image just shows that great photos can surprise you at any time. Always be ready to capture it.Editing
Not really. Since my phone cannot take RAW Images not much post processing was possible anyway. I just did some noise reduction since the S4's camera doesn't operate too well in low light. In my camera bag
I am still very new to the scene. I currently have a Nikon D3100, a 18-55mm lens, a 55-200 lens, intervalometer and tripod. That is pretty much all. Since I use my motorcycle to get to remote locations I can;t really take along that much anyway, so I try to travel very light.Feedback
These photos cannot be planned entirely. You can merely increase your chances of seeing something amazing by keeping an eye on the weather, time of year and look for good spots. In the end, the only way you can capture something like this is by always being prepared and ready. This image represents a sky only seen a few times per year in False Bay. I was lucky enough to catch the right day and right conditions.
