Location
Beratan Lake - BaliTime
This photo was taken around 5pm in the afternoon on the edge of the lake. We had been caught in a 5 hour traffic jam (the president was in the area), so we ditched the car and walked the 4 or so kilometers to have a meal at The Mentari Restaurant. The walk alone was awesome, as we got to experience the locals and other travelers observing and enjoying the break. There were so many amazing sights and sounds - not to mention the fun on the way experiencing the local culture! After dinner our driver headed back up the hill to collect the car and come and collect us. About an hour later our lift arrived. In that time, I had a play and got some amazing shots, but this one of my niece and nephew is a favorite.Lighting
I wanted the image to share the mystique and the magic of the moment, so I choose the PRO setting and adjusted a couple of the settings to get the mistiness and the coloring I wanted to portray.Equipment
My most trusted camera equipment is my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. I have it on me at all times, so it makes it the perfect travel companion. I love the fact that you can still take amazing pictures without all the glitzy equipment. So, it was just me and my mobile - and of course the subjects. (The DSLR was in my camera bag)Inspiration
I spent about an hour taking shots on my phone with a few on my DSLR. This session was more about enjoying what could of been a disaster (5 hour traffic jam), into a memorable holiday moment. We couldn't change the situation so embraced this amazing 'photo opportunity'. The colors, the serenity, despite the chaos all around us. I'm pretty sure my family were pleased when we finally got picked up! As for this photo, I saw my niece and nephew out on the jetty and wanted to capture this intimate moment for them - 'Young Lovers' on a Bali family holiday. They have chosen to get this printed for their home.Editing
This photo was truly raw. (excuse the pun). Point and shoot. I don't recall doing any editing on this shot - however, if there was it would have been in photogrid on my mobile and may have been a color correction, with a slice taken from the edges for the composition. In my camera bag
I always have my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge with me in my bag. When on holiday or local shoots I have a Canon Kiss X4 DSLR with an 18 - 200mm lens. I also carry a Panasonic Lumix. I love the simplicity of the phone, and very rarely edit any photos, with the main fixes crops and color enhancements. I love the fact that I can get some beautiful shots, that look great prior to editing. One day I will get more into the editing of photos, to get amazing prints.Feedback
Take your time to explore the local scenery and experiment with the different color effects on you chosen camera. Don't forget to do a 360 degree take on your shot - some of the best shots may be behind you. I also try to immerse myself in the shot to try and capture the emotion of the moment.
