Location
This photo was taken in County Kerry, Ireland. We were on "the Ring of Kerry" which is a breathtaking drive. As we drove through this magnificent landscape a biker flew passed us. I grabbed my camera and caught him as he entered the tunnel ahead of us.Time
This picture was taken around mid morning from a moving car with three other people in the car all yelling "get your camera".Lighting
I prefer to shoot during the golden hours. The hour after sun up and the after before sunset but sometimes the action occurs during bright daylight hours. This was taken in natural light. No flash was used.Equipment
I shot this using a Sony Alpha A77 with a 16-50mm lens set to 16mm. ISO 200, f/4 and shutter speed 1/2000Inspiration
It was so exhilarating to see this young man speed down this mountain and what I'm sure was a very dangerous speed. My goal was to try to catch the rider framed in the tunnel in the midst of this gorgeous landscape.Editing
I used Aurora HDR Pro to tone map this piece. I boosted the color and added radiance. In my camera bag
I used to be a big fan of Konica but it evolved into Sony. I use mostly the Sony Alpha A77 with a couple of lenses. I have the standard 2.8 16-50mm lens which is my go to lens. In addition, I use the Sony 4.5 75-300mm lens. I use a heavy duty tripod for HDR or macro work. A cable release is a must as well as a good external flash. I always keep an extra 32gig memory card in my bag with two extra batteries and a battery charger as well as a cleaning kit for my lenses. I find it helpful to have polarized sunglasses in my kit to help me to decide if I want to pop on a polarizer filter. Other than a UV haze filter those are the only two I use. Everything else is done in post processing.Feedback
My advice is to be prepared at all times. Have your camera ready at hand. This happened so fast. If my camera hadn't been out where I could reach it I would have missed this shot. Use a fast shutter speed to capture the action. Most of all take delight in your surroundings and enjoy life.
