Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while on my daughters kindergarten class field trip to the Newport Aquarium in Newport, Kentucky.

Time

After viewing penguins, fish, and alligators all morning, we stumbled upon this humid, sunfilled room and out of the corner of my eye the beautiful colors of this panther chameleon just drew me in.

Lighting

I wanted this image to make you feel as if you were actually in the stuffy, hot jungle forest floor clouded with mist and fog.

Equipment

Camera used was a Nikon D3200 with 55-200mm dx lense.

Inspiration

I think it just shows that beauty is everywhere, even where the setting may not be the best on earth.

Editing

I didnt use as much post processing as normal with this one, i shoot raw and use lightroom and photoshop for most of my work but the beauty and colors of this chameleon really made it easy on me. The main thing I did was darken and blend the background to give it that misty rainforest vibe and it really made the colors just pop.

In my camera bag

I've always got my Nikon D3200 with me. It was my first camera when I really started getting into photography. I usually have anout 3 lenses with me including my Nikkor 10-24mm which i love and another favorite is a nikkor 50mm, its not auto focus so it really makes me work for the shots I get with it. In 2010 as a 21yr old college kid I was diagnosed with cancer and that really opened my eyes to the beauty that fills this world...thankfully I can now say I am cancer free and without my battle with cancer I may have never picked up a camera...Im glad I did.

Feedback

Go out and shoot your camera every chance you get. I shoot and shoot and even when I think Ive got the perfect shot, i keep on shooting. I dont have the most andvanced camera and am 100% self taught. A degree doesnt make you a photographer, the best photgraphers in the world are just that because they put in the work and are blessed with an eye for beauty. Photography is art and art is anything that YOU believe is beautiful and appealing.
