Location
This image of a river running through a forest was shot during early Autumn in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. On my old Pentax K-1000 SLR I used a blue gel filter to enhance the sky and a blur tool in Photoshop for dramatic diffusion of light, shadow and focal depth in the likes of an oil painting. Because the image depicts divine nature, I applied the lettering "Orenda" to accompany my musical work by the same name.Time
Early afternoon.Lighting
Natural lighting is best. During day shots, use reflectors. In this image, no reflectors or additional lighting enhancements were made in post-production.Equipment
Pentax K-1000 SLR, tripod, cable release, neutral density and blue filters.Inspiration
As a nature admirer and adventurer, I gravitate towards the variety and beauty of landscapes. The implied "S-curve" of the river caught my attention.Editing
A slight adjustment using the Blur tool in Photoshop CS6.In my camera bag
Pentax SLR cam (35 mm), Canon Point-n-Shoot cam, tripod, unipod, lens cleaner (liquid and wipes), filters, lenses (macro, wide-angle, telephoto, zoom), lens hood, detachable mounted flash, remote spotlight, log book.Feedback
Use natural lighting for establishing shots such as mine here. Normally, I capture moments during morning or evening hours for dramatic long shadows and warm colors. This image, "Orenda," is an exception to that rule because the overhead sun cast over the landscape brings out the contrasting colors and shadows.
