Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken on the old road from Centinje to Kotor on the Montenegrinian coast and it shows Europe's southernmost fjord.

Time

About an hour before sunset, which in August is sometime between 6 and 7 pm

Lighting

I am a huge fan of backlighting and reflections. In this case the tree dampened the light perfectly for a shot straight into the sun.

Equipment

Pentax K-3 with a Sigma 8-16 wide-angle lens

Inspiration

We timed our ride down this old road (which the lonely planet considers "one of the great drives on the planet" as I found out later) so that we would have the setting sun right when we would come down from the mountains and I just loved how the it let the tarmac glow after a short rainfall half an hour earlier.

Editing

Lit up the shadows, lots of clarity and a slightly "warmer" white-balance.

In my camera bag

Most of the time I travel light with a 18-135mm all-purpose lens, a cheap 35mm 2.4 and my favorite glass: said Sigma 8-16 for landscaps. Plus a gorilla-pod.

Feedback

Just keep your eyes open and be ready when the moment comes - but please don't forget to enjoy it, no photo is worth not living these moments.
