I took this shot on the back side of Mount Tamalpais in the Marin Headlands outside of San Francisco. When the fog is the right height it rolls over one of the ridge line roads.Time
This place is magical when everything clicks. This was taken during the spring months in the bay area when we get a nice mixture of clouds and fog. This shot was from sunset as the fog began to roll over the ridge.Lighting
I like my photos to give the viewer this sense of, almost, suspended animation, where the image transports them to the place, in an almost surreal quality. So I like to look for the magic light that brings out the detail within a scene.Equipment

I am relatively new to the Bay Area and had seen shots from Mount Tam before with beautiful fog. I wanted to try and find my own take on this beautiful place. I love to add that surreal quality to my photos and the motion of the clouds rolling over the hill side creates that wonderful effect.Editing

Sure, be patient and go a lot. This wasn't my first time fog chasing. This is something Bay Area photographers find themselves doing a lot in the summer as we can go weeks without clouds and lots of fog. Make sure that you have a neutral density filter on you. Sometimes, some of the the best light is while the sun is still up and in order to get that roll you will need to slow your shutter down. And finally, find a spot where where interesting objects can appear out of the fog. It can add a layer of mystery to your photos.
