The photo was taken at my home balcony where my wife kept the plant in a large pot. It was raining slightly & I thought that was the best time to get the shot.Time
It was around 8.30 or 9.00am in the wet morning. Everybody has gone out. Wife has gone to work & two children were in school.Lighting
Light was dull due to rain clouds, so it was definite flat lighting. I thought it was the ideal lighting for flowers as there wasn't any highlights that i had to manage with. But i was trying to get good overall light on flowers & tried several angles.Equipment
This was shot with Cannon 70D + EF 100mm f/2.8 L + Manfrotto tripodInspiration
Funnily i wanted to present a copy of this flower to my wife as she really like the flower & plant. So , I thought she would like to see a print of this. Later she liked it & thanked for the effort. Beside that, I too thought it was a pleasant flower and i liked the color combination, particularly reds, oranges and greens.Editing
Yes, definitely, I shoot RAW & post processing is needed afterward. I sue Lightroom 5.2 & doesn't get involve much on PS. I must have tweaked contrast, clarity, probably ISO, sharpness etc.In my camera bag
It depends, if i go on a wildlife trip / safari, probably i take Cannon EF 100-400 and kit lens EF S 28-135mm but for a fashion show I like to shoot with EF 100mm f/2.8. I use 3-4 lenses depending on task.Feedback
Flowers or plants; basically in outdoor Macro photography, wind is enemy no.1. So get prepared or shoot indoor. Then have at least an idea of what you are going to shoot. What you want to show in final print/image. I read recently in an article, for macro first look at the big picture take a shot then slowly zoom in your frames. Not actually using a zoom lens but try to go near your subject from larger frame to medium size fame and then to tiny details, real macro shots. Who knows , some of those medium size images could be star images on your computer screen. But most importantly, SHOOT, shoot everyday to practice. Cheers !!!!!
