Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in very nice, old manor house in small village, around 20 km from Lodz, in Poland. The table was located in the dining room with one wall with big windows.

Time

First of all you must know that this picture was taken early spring, in the afternoon. Sun was not so high so a lot of light was coming to this room. White, transparent curtain made this light very soft.

Lighting

As I wrote above, this picture was taken in the afternoon only with natural light. Big windows, white, transparent curtains and sun rays – that it is all what create moody photo. Model skin was bright so you can see soft light on her face :)

Equipment

I used my Canon 5D Mk III and my best, portrait lens - Canon 135 f/2. I did not use modifiers.

Inspiration

This is funny story. Our model was tired, after almost whole day of workshop, work with few photographers… I’ve asked her to sit down. I’ve started to check the light and… the same time our model put her head on arms on the table and rest… And we have this nice photo :)

Editing

My typical post-processing workflow starts from Camera Raw and ends in Photoshop. Here I was trying get more from shadows, using curves I added a bit of the sun (which was missing here). And all :)

In my camera bag

My I'm using Canon prime lens - 85 f/1.2, 50 f/1.2, 135 f/2 with Canon 5D Mk III. For my analog photography I'm using Contax 645 with the best (in my opinion) Zeiss 80 mm lens. From time to time, I'm using Elinchrome studio lights.

Feedback

Yes :) Do not be afraid of dark day. Wait for the best moment, even if the light is very weak and... take a picture. Just practise :)
