Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Cheile Nerei National Park - Romania during our summer vacation. Really beautiful wild places, relaxing quiet and soft murmuring water. I have 8-10 favorite photos from that vacation and this is one of them.

Time

I love the colors, the light, the shadows, I love the sense of peace that the photo reminds me every time I watch it. I had no tripod and it was quite a challenge to take photos in that forest. However it was the noon of a summer day, the light is scarcely generous because it is filtered through a thick curtain of branches and tree limbs.

Lighting

It was all natural light and it is all 100% natural landscape: no stones or trees added or removed in Photoshop.

Equipment

I shot this photo with a Nikon D90. I did not use flash of tripod. I regret I considered the tripod to heavy for that trip, because it would have helped me for many, many shots that I found later to be blurred :(. But this is a lesson learned :).

Inspiration

What made me capture this shot was not the just the colors, or just the light, but the peace and the tranquility of that place, the way I felt that I could lay down and stay in that very spot for a day, just to listen the water and watch the light beams playing through the leaves.

Editing

I love to take photos. And that 's it. This is why I put a lot of my energy in finding the best spot, the best frame, the best light, the best angle, the best camera settings so my shot to be perfect in the camera (at least perfect in my vision). It sometimes takes an hour to get a shot to satisfy my eye :). I usually do not edit my photos. Sometimes, pretty rare, I raise the contrast or the sharpness. But I am very enthusiastic and patient to try, and try, and try until I get the best shot directly in the camera. I do not rely on later editing when taking a shot.

In my camera bag

I used to have a Nikon D90 with kit lenses which I used for landscape, a fixed 50 mm I used for portraits and a 50-200 mm I used for bogs, flowers and portraits.

Feedback

I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer. I don't even choose my niche yet :), but I rely on my heart. I take candid children or family photos when I can feel I can capture a genuine bond or emotion, I take street photos when I find something that moves me, I take bugs or animal photos, etc. I don't know if I have a style yet, I am not sure my photos are technical correct (I mean exposure, aperture, etc), but I rely most on my emotion. I focus on emotion or the feeling that my photo can transmit to the viewer. I think that this is the first advice any photographer should follow. The rest is just imagination and light :) Thank you very much for this opportunity, View bug! I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer, self taught, and this means a lot to me!! I learned a lot since I uploaded my first photo! Keep doing your great job!
