Shown here are above ground flowers of Etlingera fimriobracteate, partly buried and in deep shade. Common species in Borneo, found near streams. Shoots reach 7m in the wild.The infloresceence is partly buried in the ground. Locals eat the fruits and soft centres of the shoots and make mats from the leaf sheaths of the mature plants. Species of Etlingera are widely used for many different purposes and many of the species are therefore locally named and known.
