Behind The Lens

Location

I was out walking the dog when I saw 3 or 4 blackbirds that all had some white feathers somewhere on their bodies. One was in the tree covered in blossom in someone's front garden and sat still just long enough for me to grab a couple of shots.

Time

The dog has his 2nd walk between 9.30am and 10.30am.

Lighting

Overcast day but decent light and not too much contrast.

Equipment

At the moment I am using a Pentax 500 which takes good pictures but is a bit suspect on the build quality, I know its an entry level camera but being a long time Pentax user it seems to me to be a bit fragile. After 6 months the plastic clip which holds the battery in (before closing the cover) has already failed and I have to insert the battery and hold it in while sliding the cover shut. 3 months after that and I have to do the same thing with the memory card. The picture was taken with the kit 55mm to 300mm lens which seems fine to me.

Inspiration

No inspiration as such, I always take the camera with me when walking the dog and am always on the lookout for something to capture. As I have the dog with me I miss quite a few shots of birds etc. as they soon disappear when he's running around. Perhaps I should make time to go out on my own just to look for pictures but I hate leaving him behind.

Editing

As usual I couldn't get any closer so the picture is cropped a fair bit

In my camera bag

generally don't take my bag or other lenses just sling the camera with 55/300 over my shoulder and see what turns up.

Feedback

Always have your camera with you, that old saying about the best camera for any shot is the one you have with you is so true. The one occasion recently I didn't take the camera a buzzard flew over about 30ft above our heads - a missed chance ! It may have been a rubbish result but you never know it may have been great ?
