Location
I moved to Sweden in August 2015, aged 20, and decided in the winter to make the 15 hour train journey up to the far north of the country, well within the arctic circle. Amongst many of the highlights of this beautiful region at that time of year is the Ice Hotel, which is situated next to a large lake in a village called Jukkasjärvi. The hotel is built using ice from the local Torne river in November and eventually comes down at the end of winter. Many people decide to enjoy the novelty of staying in the hotel, which is chilled at about -5 degrees Celsius, thus requiring the need to sleep under a reindeer skin sleeping bag. This particular room captured me with its striking arches. Imagine sleeping here.Time
Go 9am to avoid the crowd surges. Then whilst they arrive you can hop over the road to the restaurant buffet or walk across the frozen lake next to the huskies enjoying the sun as it sits incredibly low in the sky almost blinding you at times.Lighting
The snow and ice reflect the light nicely to help make top photos. The blue light in many of the hotel rooms is particularly pleasant although sometimes a little overpowering.Equipment
iPhone 6s. Easy to carry around and has sharp focus. Perfect for when you come across something unexpected or an event happening in front of you. Best of all it isn't cumbersome at all.Inspiration
As soon as I stepped through the curtain that acts as a door the arches struck me. A beautiful room that you would love to wake up in.Editing
Absolutely zero!In my camera bag
Nothing! Just my phone and a free app (snapseed) which is primarily used for removing sun spots.Feedback
The best thing to do from my photography experiences is to put yourself in as many situations as you can. In other words the key word is EXPLORE. Only then do you come across things such as this. The weather can be particularly important. I love blue skies and dislike the grey dull days. If you see that the weather is good with clear blue skies then go somewhere, anywhere, and you will be guaranteed to picture something cool. Sun makes even the most seemingly inocuous places intriguing.
