Location
The photo was taken 200m from my house; the sky turned pink as the sun descended into the ocean so I decided to go down to the old boathouse and do a long exposure.Time
The photo was taken at 10:20 pm 4th May. In Norway the evenings starts to last longer and longer as we`re approaching the summer and I truly enjoy the long bright evenings with warmer temperatures.Lighting
The light is everything in this photo. When I travel to capture a beautiful sunset it`s usually when it`s rather cloudy so that the sky is able to turn pink. The risk however is that the clouds closes out the light and disappears, so I usually get a homerun 50% of the time.Equipment
Canon EOS 600D, Sigma 18-250mm, Tripod, Remote controller, ND 10 f-stop filterInspiration
A beautiful location and the right sky. Every time the light is right I jump out to capture it.Editing
To get the really soft look on the sky I took 3 long exposures of 1 minute and 30 seconds, and blended them in photoshop to create a long exposure of 4 minutes and 30 seconds. In my camera bag
Canon EOS 600D, Sigma Art 30mm f1.4, Sigma 18-250mm, tripod, remote controller, ND filterFeedback
Be patient for the right weather conditions/light/clouds and plan what location you want to capture. If my picture hadn`t had the boathouse in the foreground it would be pretty boring. Also take a lot of pictures so you have something to play with in the end, and if you want to use the same technique of blending long exposures in post afterwards make sure to take at least 3 photos with the same frame before moving your tripod.
