Taken on a business trip and used the frosted bathroom door to capture this idea. I had my compact camera set up on 10 second timer on the bed and ran back and forth with my arms in differing positions. The edited a number of shots together.

I just LOVE this!!!! I'm into the darker stuff, like goth and these types of photos. AMAZING! I had a similar idea, but not exactly. But it doesn't involve all the arms. I can't give enough LIKES!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken whilst I was away on a business trip to France, I stay in a hotel round the corner from the office and they have these great frosted doors to the en suite bathrooms.

Time

I had returned from a meal with colleagues and was back in my room feeling restless. So this was taken about 11.30 pm.

Lighting

When I switched off all the lights in the room apart from the bathroom light it gave a nice glow like to another dimension so I thought of trying to use that light in some kind of photo montage.

Equipment

When away on business I travel with a Samsung WB150 compact camera. I find this camera to be very versatile and perfect to leave in my handbag for those opportunistic moments. My tripod for this picture was the plastic chair from the desk in the hotel room balanced on the bed, with a couple of books on top of it to get the right height for the camera. I then used the ten second timer and proceeded to run back and forth from the camera to behind the door where I would 'pose' in a variety of positions. I took about 20 different pictures in total. No flash used, just the light from the door. In order to focus the picture, I left the door half open to focus on it first. I then rushed to close the door behind me and pose for the next shot. This would have been a much easier project if I had the SLR with me, but it was kinda fun to experiment.

Inspiration

I'm a fan of horror movies but haven't really tried any horror photography, but I had this idea of trying to get the feeling across that everyone trying to get hold of you, so just went with it.

Editing

I did use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to process the image. First I merged eight of the photo's together in Photoshop (mostly just cropping to the hands on the door, and merging them with the body shot) then I used Lightroom to adjust the colour and tone. I prefer to use Lightroom on most of my photos as its so quick and easy to use and I only really jump to Photoshop if I need to merge multiple images together.

In my camera bag

When I plan a project I use my canon 70D. My go to lens these days is my 50mm, I love the Depth of Field I can get with it and its great in ow light conditions. I have a 100mm macro lens, which I used for a lot of my butterfly & macro shots but it is also great for portraits too. I have the MPE 65mm macro lens (this lens was the reason I picked Canon over Nikon), I love the lens but it is quite difficult to use but I love the challenge, and the output when I get it right is great. I also have a Tamron zoom lens which is perfect for taking out on a hike. I use LED lighting rather than flash so I can set up the lighting effect a little easier and have a tripod which I use mostly with the MPE lens as I need the added stability.

Feedback

You don't need to have high tech equipment to get a shot that is in your mind. You just need to be a little creative with what is available to you and persevere to get the shot. I am heading back to France shortly again on business and will be taking some more pictures to try to build on this theme more. I have no idea how it will turn out, but I know I will have fun trying.
