This picture was taken on what I would call a traditional British seaside town. Imagine a smaller Coney Island with a British accentTime
We had drived about 3 hours to get to the coast this particular day, with winding roads I was happy to stretch my legs and the first place we landed was the beach. I would guess around 1pm, we soon after walked along the beach to get ice cream.Lighting
I can't mention the lighting, I just mention the sky was dramatic like a storm was coming and thinking I need to capture that! The rustic wood helped in doing so also. It wasn't staged, it was a second that I took the picture and thought it came out great, which I think that's what great photography is, beautifully timed chances.Equipment
The funny story is, I didn't use any of my 'gadgets'. This may upset a lot of people and this may lose me brownie points or even gain them. I took this picture using my iPhone which tells you how strong the image was. I went for a day out and didn't expect to take pictures, it has now taught me to always be prepared!Inspiration
The quality of the sky and the water, it spoke to me in a dramatic way. It was the first time I had been to the coast in a very long time.Editing
It's funny that I did nothing. I made it black and white, the image was good that I didn't need to do anything. I love photography but I'm not the best 'technical' person. That's why I find beauty in unedited, apart from the black and white. In my camera bag
I'm very basic! I normally have my Sony camera and nothing else, on occasion I will take a tripod. I can't express my love for raw photography. For the point and shoot and seeing the imagine without any gimmicks. Which is like old school how I was taught by my dad who used dark rooms when he studied photography in the 60's. It makes the picture more honest, more rare and more beautiful.Feedback
Be patient. The perfect shot for me isn't one that is heavily edited. It's the honest shot, the shot you wait hours for the sky to look just right. It means you move, you get down on your hands and knees and you lay on the floor because you feel that the shot needs that. For all else it's really trial and error. I'm self taught, my dad helped me. If you have a vision run with it!
