Location
This photo was taken at a private residence in the beautiful hills above Palo Alto California. I was there on a professional photographic project and this very cute dog was making friends with me. So in between shoots, I asked this very cute Dachsund to pose. This was one of those houses that had great natural lighting throughout.Time
This photograph was taken around 6-7PM, when the special 'magic' light was present. this light makes almost any subject beautifully illuminated and photogenic.Lighting
I would imagine this light was southwest, perfect for California. The lighting was all natural, no fill in flash.Equipment
This photo was shot with a Canon Power Shot G7X. No other equipment was used, handheld, no flash.Inspiration
My inspiration for almost any photograph is light, I especially like natural light. As you can see in this photo the even illumination of this dog was wonderful. I am a long time dog lover and just have a way with animals in general. This little pooch warmed up to me right away and I came away with a few nice images that day. I photographed a few with the dog and her owner as well, they look great too!Editing
I always correct everything in Photoshop. This image barely utilized any post-processing at all.In my camera bag
I have reduced my equipment and only carry my trusty small, but mighty Canon GX7Feedback
Always consider the lighting and be responsible for everything in the frame. The background counts a lot, whether you decide to keep it in focus or out of focus. These days, you can even shoot a fuller frame photograph and then work it in Photoshop to refine it in every imaginable way.
