Behind The Lens

Location

This picture is of my cat Jasper - he is one of four feline muses in my home! As any cat-lady-come-photographer will tell you, they make the most excellent (and amusing) subjects.

Time

This was taken mid-afternoon just after Jasper's nap time. He was sitting on the back of the sofa just above my head and looked so fuzzy and sleepy that I couldn't resist taking a few snaps. Timing and luck were everything for this particular shot!

Lighting

We're really lucky to have a bright, beautiful lounge with massive picture windows. When the light is good outside, it creates excellent shooting conditions both in the front room and in the garden.

Equipment

This was shot with a iphone 4S.

Inspiration

As mentioned before, my cats are my muses - I love any excuse to photograph them!

Editing

None at all.

In my camera bag

These days, I have an 8 megapixel camera phone in my handbag at all times, but my main camera now is a Nikon DS3300.

Feedback

Capturing any animal can be tricky as they don't always play ball; they can move around a lot, look away just as you've got them in focus, etc. My best piece of advice would be to take lots and lots of pictures as something good is bound to be captured eventually. I also use treats when I'm photographing the cats so that they associate the camera with something positive. This means they usually stick around a bit longer allowing me to get the shots I want.
