My home is at the seaside so I have my preference where I am able to get the best vantage points and for this day I was set up higher level on the rocks.Time
Generally as a rule to get the best out of the day I choose the mornings, for this shot it was about mid morning, worked out well.Lighting

Get out early and get as much time as possible. Keep trying till you get the shot you want, maybe not on the same day. It will come.
