Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the back deck of my house.

Time

Light from the rising sun on a foggy morning was creating tiny rainbows of colour on the dew droplets on this web suspended between the deck railings.

Lighting

I was lucky to catch the natural light at just the right time. Early morning light can do wonders for otherwise ordinary subjects.

Equipment

I used my Moto G3 phone to capture this image. It is amazing how good phone cameras are now.

Inspiration

The combination of recently moving to the countryside and wishing to experience the different local weather had me up at sunrise on a foggy morning. The golden morning light was not an opportunity to be missed.

Editing

The most post processing I am likely to do is possibly a little judicious cropping. Preferably though I try to frame the shot to avoid even that.

In my camera bag

The beauty of phone cameras is they are always there for that unexpected opportunity. I find I hardly ever carry a "real" camera now unless I am specifically looking for a macro or 12x telephoto shot. Even then while I am frequently on the lookout for a good subject I have not indulged in a SLR equivalent equipment since the advent of digital cameras. My current camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ7.

Feedback

The best advice I can give is "be prepared". Unless you have your camera with you the best subjects in the best light and the most unexpected situation will pass you by. It is rare to be able to recapture such a moment. Final point... Always carry a spare charged battery!
