I suffer from a chronic illness which leaves me in constant pain and debilitating fatigue. Many days I can't get out of bed. Other days I feel blessed just to go in the backyard with my dog. On those days, I try to focus on the beauty of nature. That's how this picture came to be. I was just walking around in the backyard with my dog when my eye caught a glimpse of yellow. When I looked through the slats of the fence, I saw this beautiful sunflower. It was as if it was beckoning me to look toward the sky and the sun shining down from Heaven. I chose to shoot the flower with the slats framing it because it reminds me that even though my illness could cause me to be surrounded by dull, dreary days, if I look around, there is beauty all around me.
