Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a small City called São Luiz do Paraitinga, which is about 80 miles from São Paulo.

Time

We are traveling to do some trekking near São Luiz do Paratinga and this bird appeared in the hotel while we were taking breakfast. It was about 8:00 am.

Lighting

The light was soft as the weather was rainy. The colors were improved exactly due to this condition.

Equipment

I was using a Nikon D5300 with a 70-300mm lens. No flash was needed.

Inspiration

While we were taking breakfast, this bird just appeared very near where we were and my friend Pedro told me that this is not a so common. Unfortunately I was not carrying my camera at that moment. You can't imagine how I run to get it in my room and come back to try to photograph the little bird. I could take 2 or 3 shots and it flew away.

Editing

Just basic contrast, white/back/shadow tweaks and sharpening. Not even a crop was needed.

In my camera bag

At that time only a Nikon D5300 a 18-55mm kit lens and a 70-300mm lens. Now I am using also a 24-70mm.

Feedback

Take your camera wherever you go, so if an opportunity like this appears you are ready to take the shot. It was not what I was doing at that time, but the lesson was taken. Also, to know very well your camera configuration so you don't need to take much time trying to configure it, as for birds, and other animals, few seconds can make the difference between have or not the picture taken.
