Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken of our family cat as she was relaxing in our lounge.

Time

It was taken around mid-day which gave excellent lighting.

Lighting

I used natural light from the patio doors behind her.

Equipment

The shot was taken with my Canon Eos 30d, with no extra flash.

Inspiration

I wanted to get a great close up of her to capture her timid nature and beautiful markings.

Editing

No processing was done to the shot.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a macro lens, a 27-55, a 55-200 and a 75-300. A separate flash unit. Lens pen, extra batteries and a uv and a skylight filter.

Feedback

Pay attention and make use of the natural daylight, try the shot from different angles to see how the lighting changes the subject. I find it takes a little patience, observing the subject to wait for the perfect composition or expression. It's important to relax and enjoy it as the subject will also relax.
