Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in my small home made studio at home, Rhondda in South Wales. Photography is a hobby for me and each shoot I learn something different and continue to develop.Time
The time of day didn't effect this shot as was taken in studio and like to completely control the Lightning at home so use a blackout blind on the window.Lighting
The lighting was basic for this shot just one light set up,soft box with continuous light. At the time of this shot this was all the lighting I had so made the best out of what light I had.Equipment
This was shot with Canon 600d with 24-105 f4 IS USM lens, also 1xsoftbox(continuous) stand with black backdropInspiration
Most nights I take my daughter to bed then read her a story, on this occasion I walked in her room and caught her pretending to read this book, it instantly got me thinking and I was trying to work out what was going through her mind. Its amazing to see her little expression's and inspired me on to get this shot and tell the story in my way.Editing
For this image I converted to black and white, slight adjustments to the highlights and shadows to make it stand out a little. After this a small bit of dodge and burn in areas and darken around the whole edges of the image, lastly then was to add the beautiful butterflies I took from a previous shot, layer by layer adding them on then using free transform till happy with position and shape. In my camera bag
I always carry my favourite lens which is the 24-105 f4 IS USM lens, find very good all round lens and perfect for most the situations I have found myself in so far. Canon 600d is my chosen body, this is my first dslr I have bought and so pleased with results I get and after 2 years i can't let it go. Also in my bag is the 50mm 1.8 ii prime,I find this lens so sharp and for the price you can't go wrong.Feedback
My advice is simple enjoy what you do,love what you shoot and grab every opportunity possible to create those ideas that go round your head. If you think up an idea write it down on a note pad or sketch your idea on scrap paper for later. Take inspiration from others, there are many photographers from all walks of life I now follow and it's these people that inspire me. Don't be afraid to make mistakes it is the way in which I have learnt all I know so far , make the mistakes but learn how to correct them for your next shot.
