Behind The Lens

Location

Hello, well this photo was taken in Sintra, Portugal, in the mountains, which was once dominated by Muslims, who called Sintra Monte da Lua, ( hill of the moon), because it is a very mystical place. More precisely, in the park of the Palácio da Peninha that can be seen in the distance. It was a difficult photo to take physically, because the point i «where I took it is called the high cross, where there is an ancient stone cross, and to get there, I had to climb the mountain. Old stone stairs were more or less 2 kilometers, I got tired of sweating, I came with friends that could not stand the climb, but a lot I had in mind to go there to take this photo of Palacio da Pena, but I went to the end of the journey with the goal in mind of this photo. . History The chapel of Nossa Senhora da Pena has been a place of pilgrimage since the Middle Ages. In the reign of D. Manuel I (1469-1521), the great monarch of the Portuguese Discoveries, this sovereign authorizes the creation of a convent destined to the Order of S. Jerónimo, which had its headquarters at Quinta da Penha Longa, three kilometers from this location. With the 1755 earthquake that devastated Lisbon and its surroundings, the convent fell into ruins and, after the extinction of religious orders in Portugal, it was abandoned.

Time

It was a hot, muggy day, with its cloudy, it had rained and it was humid, but hot in the Serra de Sintra, at that time I think it was close to 16h in the afternoon when I reached the top of the mountain range.

Lighting

with its cloudy, it was a good light The sky was cloudy, that's why I like to take pictures with a cloudy sky, with the sky partially cloudy, we can choose the moment to photograph: when the sun comes out or when the clouds cover the sun. Taking photos with these conditions has a disadvantage: the light changes constantly: sometimes there is the sun, sometimes a cloud partially covers the sun, but it lets in a lot of light, sometimes a cloud covers the sun and lets in little light, etc. So we have to constantly measure the scene to achieve the correct exposure.

Equipment

At that time it had a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ72 (also known as the FZ70) is a digital bridge camera with a 16.1 megapixel high sensitivity MOS sensor, FullHD video, Power OIS and a 20mm wide-angle lens that telescopes out to an unbelievable 1200mm. That's a 60x zoom

Inspiration

Well the inspiration was that I see some pictures of the Palacio da Pena, which I love, that palace, and I had to one day manage to climb the mountain (Hill) and take this photo from a not very common point of view .. and when I got to That day was April 20, 2017, it was years ago, and the Serra Sintra went with some friends. and I remembered that photo, and I had to go and take it.

Editing

No, this photo is how it came out of the camera, due to lapse in the Panasonic camera, I forgot to use Jpeg + Raw, so this photo was only in Jpeg, and I didn't edit anything.

In my camera bag

Well now my equipment, it's simple, what I have now is a Nikon D5600, with kit lenses an 18-55mm and a 70-300mm from Nikon, a mini tripod from Manfrotto. Unfortunately, I haven't yet had the financial opportunity to buy a Fujifilm Xt3 or XT4, and a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone, plus an insta360 One R, and a LumeCube LED set, the LumeCube 2.0 set, which I love it, I would be really happy with that, but I can't ... lol noooo gonna cry ahahahaha

Feedback

Well first never give up, when we have an image in mind, we have to be persistent, despite the difficulties, and test to test photos until we get the photo we have in mind, and if we think we can't do it because we don't have material, any machine will do, we just have to keep learning and the world we like is photography and never give up, we have a lot of material online to learn ..
