I really like this. I keep coming back and back to it. i find it intriguing and mesmerising. I like the texture and the shadows. The colour is intense yet subtle. I like the composition and the leading lines. Beautiful it is one of my favourites

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while flying over Canyon de Chelly in northeast Arizona.

Time

This photo was taken in the early evening as the sun was beginning to set.

Lighting

The natural light from the setting sun illuminated the canyon walls creating a contrast with the snow-covered surrounding terrain.

Equipment

I normally shoot with a Nikon DSLR, but on this occasion, I used what I had on hand...a Canon SureShot.

Inspiration

Serendipity. I caught the light radiating from the canyon walls in my peripheral vision. The sight was amazing. I grabbed the only camera that I had on hand and snapped this photo.

Editing

Simple processing where I adjusted the highlights, white balance, and contrast and applied a polarizing filter to correct for the effect of the aircraft window.

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Nikon D7100 camera and both a 28mm and an 85mm f/1.8G prime lens.

Feedback

Always be ready and always try for a window seat. I carry a cloth to clean windows and clean them (inside and out) prior to flight. Fast prime lenses seem to work best for shooting through aircraft windows. I alternate between wide and long lenses depending on the amount of light and reflections in the glass. A good trick is to carry a dark colored piece of fabric to mitigate reflections and hold it up behind the camera.
