Cannonball tree, Couroupita guianensis, in full bloom. This member of the Brazil nut family, sends flowering stalks directly out of the main trunk, looking like it's surrounded by vibrant flowered vines. The tree is named after its large, cannonball-sized-shaped fruit which come crashing down to the forest floor where they are eaten by pigs.
