Location
This picture was taken at Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, at approximately 5:30am.Time
It was forth of July weekend 2015, woke up around 4:30 to make it to the high point above Emerald Bay to get this shot. The warm light coming up over the Sierras in Nevada was truly worth the early rise.Lighting
As most photographer's know great landscape photography has a lot to do with the lighting. My goal was to be at this location for the golden hour and get in enough shots to let the light reflect off the lake as well as give colorful back-lighting to the clouds.Equipment
I shot this photo with a Canon EOS 60D at: f/11, 1/8, 19mm, ISO100 on a Raveli Tripod 70" tripod, and a Circular Polarizer filter.Inspiration
The day before my Fiancee and I had driven Route 89 to find the best location to shoot Emerald Bay at sunrise. The blue water, layout of the bay in relation to where the sunrise was located was really the inspiration.Editing
This photo actually didn't require a lot of processing as the lighting was superb that morning. I did minor contrast adjustments, as well as sharpness to bring out the definition of the clouds and sunrays. In my camera bag
Canon EFS 18mm-135mm lens, trigger release remote, filters (polarizer, neutral density filter), and tripod.Feedback
It is always key to try and scope out the spot you'd like to shoot if you are trying to capture sunrise or sunset. Also note the location of the natural features to be sure the sun will be located at the best angle for the shot. Always check the weather the night before; there is nothing more frustrating to preparing for an early morning to have full cloud cover and no view.
