The Tumeric Grasshopper (Valanga nigricornis) is known by many other common names, including Yellow Grasshopper; Belalang Kunyit (in Malay); Malaysian Grasshopper; Javanese Grasshopper and Bird Grasshopper.
It has a pair of short antennae, a greenish yellowish-saffron body with black spots on the body and the hind legs. The body measures between 8 to15 cm in length depending on the age and locality. Although regarded as a pest ( locust) it is edible and is a good source of protein.
