Location
This photo was taken in Kolkata, India at a place called Maidan, a vast stretch of open land in the middle of the city. I am a street photographer and have taken several photos here over the years.Time
The sun was setting with a crimson hue cast over the sky. The boys in this photo was done flying kites for the day and was packing up. That's when the photo was shot.Lighting
The idea was to use the silhouette in a way that the ultimate contrast pops out. The activity and figure becomes more important than the characters themselves. The low angle helped fill up the frame with the crimson sky in the background thus achieving the silhouette.Equipment
The photo was shot with a Canon 600d with 18-55mm lens mounted.Inspiration
The silhouette of the children with the sky at the backdrop seemed much philosophical to me. The flying bird added to the depth of the photo.Editing
In post processing, I adjusted the highlights and shadows a bit to work out the silhouette properly.In my camera bag
I carry a Canon 80d, Canon 600d,18-55mm, 55-250mm, 18-135mm and 50mm lens. A tripod and a shutter release and few filters are also always present.Feedback
The beauty of silhouette is in the contrast. Low angle shots just opens up the sky for such contrasts. An interesting story associated with the activity of the people just make the photograph worthwhile.
