Location
I took this photograph on the way to the top of Mount Seymour, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.Time
I believe it was somewhere around 4 or 5pm, maybe a bit earlier, as the light fade quite fast during fall!winter here on the west coast of Canada. Just a little bit before sunset.Lighting
When you are in the mountains, the weather can change quite fast and the clouds can become ominous in the blink of an eye. It's usually best to find shelter, but if you can take a picture before doing so, it's always a plus. This is all natural lighting with a little bit of post processing.Equipment
I usually shoot with my Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 24-70mmInspiration
I am a trail runner and often go on training run while holding my camera. It's fairly heavy, but I missed out on so many incredible photos when all I had on me was an iphone that I started running trails with my big boy camera. Which allows me to access amazing places and take better photos of it. Plus it's a very nice arm workout too, since I don't have a backpack for the camera, I just hold it and run.Editing
I worked on the sky a little bit, pushing the contrast and saturation to make it look even more ominous, but the original sky was pretty intense. In my camera bag
I rarely go out the door without my Canon 5D Mark III with 24-70mm. But if I grab the whole bag, I have another 5D as a backup, plus a 50mm f/1.2, a 85mm f/1.2 and a 70-200mm f/4. And also a microphone, just in case I have to do a video.Feedback
The only way to capture a picture like this is if you are able to access remote places on foot. I am fortunate enough to be able to run for 6 to 9 hours while holding my camera, which allows me to see amazing places on mountains and shoot them with the proper gear. So my advice to people would be start training because to get these shots you usually need to hike, run or walk for quite some time. But the reward is always huge.
