This photo was taken at home. The vinca flowers were all in full bloom, but there was this one lone bloom, in a weathered enclosure, and the contrast spoke to me.Time
I had stepped outside in the mid afternoon with the intention of taking some backyard bird photos. All the flowers looked so pretty in the afternoon light, but this one beckoned to me.Lighting
The sun was out, and I liked the way the afternoon light was hitting it.Equipment
The only equipment I used was my Nikon P610 set in macro mode. The only thing unusual about getting this shot was the flower was low to the ground and in a tight spot, so I was holding my camera by it's strap when I pushed the shutter.Inspiration
It was the contrast that caught my attention. A lonely bloom against the weathered wood kind of gave it the feel of the flower you see blooming up in the crack of the pavement.Editing
When I uploaded this photo, I was really amazed about how much "pop" it had on it's own. I did very little post-processing, added a little bit of sharpening and saturation, and that was it! I was very pleased how the texture of the petals came out.In my camera bag
I don't have a fancy camera, so my equipment is minimal! I have 2 back up batteries, a mini tripod, and a "cheat sheet" of some camera settings to use as a guide, as I'm still learning!Feedback
If photography has taught me anything, it's how to turn negatives into positives (pun intended?) I used to look at a cloudy day as somewhat depressing, but now I see it as the perfect lighting for photo taking. Beauty is all around us...grab your camera, take that picture, you never know what might "develop"! I never expected this photo to be special, but it certainly surprised me, and I'm glad I didn't just change my mind about trying to capture the beauty of this bloom.
