Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Las Vegas Springs Preserve butterfly habitat. The butterfly habitat is the newest addition to the park.

Time

If I remember correctly, the photo was taken in the early part of the day. I wanted to make sure it was warm enough for the butterflies to be active, but cool enough for me in the Las Vegas desert.

Lighting

Natural lighting was all that was needed for this shot.

Equipment

This photo was taken with a Sony a330 DSLR. I only have a 'beginner' camera at the moment. If anyone out there can give me an idea on my next camera, I would love to hear the pros and cons on cameras all of you wonderful photographers out there use and why!

Inspiration

I have always loved butterflies, and with the new exhibit at the preserve here in town, it was the perfect opportunity to see and photograph butterflies that are not native to the area.

Editing

No post processing on this image.

In my camera bag

Again, beginning photographer, so just the basics! My bag has my camera, 35-55mm lense, 55-200mm lense and when living in Las Vegas you have to have room for a couple of bottles of water!

Feedback

When visiting a butterfly habitat, I have learned that the cooler the weather, the less active the butterflies are. This gives me more time to focus on my 'perfect' shot. I try to have additional colors in the background for a pop of color!
