Location
The photo was taken around the corner from where I live, about two blocks away, on a small piece of parkland. The council have planted about eight trees and this year the blossom was extremely colourful. I knew I only had a few days before the blossom would be lost, and luckily the weather was really good, with a clear sky and good lighting conditions.Time
I took the photo early in the morning as I had seen that there were no clouds, and living in Manchester (UK) you have to take advantage of good light as it can change quickly.Lighting
The lighting was just right to capture the bright colours of blossom, and shooting straight up towards the blue sky helped to ensure the backlight added to the image, picking up the water drops on the petals. Perfect for an outdoor shoot.Equipment
I used my trust Nikon D3100 with a 55 - 300 lens. Hand held.Inspiration
I had missed the opportunity to capture these beautiful trees in blossom the year before, and seeing that the lighting was good, I grabbed my camera and made sure I captured the brightness in a photo. This photo just worked out well, framing and colours, making it it worthwhile.Editing

In addition to my camera and 55 -300 lens I carry the kit 18 -55 lens for anything a little closer. I have become used to carrying limited equipment so try to push my limits with what I have. One day I will expand my kit.Feedback
Keep an eye on the subject and plan your photo in your mind, and be ready to drop everything when the conditions are right, like the lighting. If you know what you want it is easier to be ready to capture it. Photos outdoors don't always allow for a set up and need to be shoot quickly. I'm not sure that even if I had the equipment to light these blossoms that I would have achieved the crispness, so don't rely of lights, reflectors etc. when shooting nature - make use of natural light as the best way to capture flowers and nature.
