Behind The Lens

Location

This was a very spontaneous shot. I took this photo in the middle of a bike ride in Franklin, TN. We took a small break just outside downtown Franklin, which gave me just enough time to pull out my camera and take a couple shots.

Time

I remember being so excited around the time I took this shot. Spring colors were finally breaking through the deadness of winter and I was so inspired to get shooting. My wife and her sister had just gotten off work and golden hour was just about to begin. It didn't take long for us to bike to downtown Franklin so this was probably taken sometime just before 6 in the evening.

Lighting

I just remember falling in love with Tennessee spring when golden hour hit. My main goal was to capture the warmth of the evening sun on the flower pedals.

Equipment

This was a very simple shot. All I used was my Canon EOS 7D mk II and my Canon 18 - 55mm lens. I wasn't expecting to take a lot of photos on this bike ride but I knew I would regret it if I left my camera behind.

Inspiration

Spring, it was spring time and colors were emerging. I had just returned from a trip to Saskatoon and in that two week trip Tennessee had gone from brown, barren branches to a garden of green and color. I do love winter but at this point I was rejoicing in the coming of spring.

Editing

I really didn't do a whole lot. I am still new to photography and this was taken in my even earlier days. For this shot I just brought back the color from it's initial slightly duller RAW state.

In my camera bag

As I said before, I am new to the photography game. All my gear travels with me wherever I go in a small Bower bag. Most of my equipment came as a gift from my father who also enjoys photography. In my bag I keep my EOS 7D mk II, my Canon 18-55mm, my set of Lenspens, an XIT UV filter and a deck of Kathmandu playing cards.

Feedback

This was quite a simple shot. My one suggestion would be to make sure you get the shot before the flowers trade their bright spring colors for their greener summer colors.
